His coat of arms, 16 March 2020

Historian, teacher and lawyer. Born in Betijoque, Trujillo state, in 1963, he came to Timotes at the age of one; the town and its history have been his life’s work ever since. He has been Official Chronicler of Miranda municipality since 16 March 2020, a post he won by public competition.

He taught from 1988 until his retirement in 2016, university classrooms included. He served as municipal councillor (2001-2004) and as the town’s first Bolivarian mayor (2004-2008). He co-founded the Archaeological Museum of Timotes, was founding director of the Casa de la Cultura, and created the Municipal Publishing Fund, which gave away titles by local authors.

He published his press columns under the title “Cronicario Cultural” in regional newspapers of Trujillo and Mérida; today he writes them for the digital paper Timotes Hoy and his social media, signing as Paramerías. He hosts two programmes on the Siembra 89.1 FM community station, which he has also directed unpaid since 2021.

Not to be confused with Jesús María Espinoza Becerra, the earlier chronicler and founder of the first newspaper of Timotes, El Pordiosero (10 May 1910). Espinoza Becerra is also the subject of his first book.
